"My favorite thing is to go where I've never been." ~ Diane Arbus
"Travel is fatal to bigotry and narrow-mindedness." ~ Mark Twain
I've been a photographer since I can remember. When I was eight years old, I got my first Kodak Instamatic with flashcubes for Christmas and my whole world changed. Back then, I'd wait for weeks to get my pictures in the mail from Clark Labs, plus a new role of film! Technology has certainly changed, but the essence of photography remains the same in the digital age.
I'm also a traveler with a severe case of wanderlust. For me, traveling and experiencing a foreign culture can foster friendship and understanding between people in a way that nothing else can. Being a traveler, not just a tourist, can ease prejudice, misconceptions and fear of things unfamiliar to us. My work is greatly influenced by my travels, even a trip around the block. I photograph the way I see the world -- in detailed macro images of the colors and textures of a place, through portraits of interesting and colorful people I meet along the way, and through vast landscapes of the amazing scenery that surrounds me.
Photography has the power to inspire and move people to change. It tells the stories of our lives, so we can remember the context and details later on. There are many stories to tell and so much beauty in the world....the question is, how will your story be told?
